Searching Cases by Name
The county offers no anonymous public docket interface for Clarke County Circuit, Justice, or municipal court records. Instead, participating Circuit and Chancery cases run through the statewide Mississippi Electronic Courts system. That system opens public access via PAMEC registration. Pick the right court family first. A broad Clarke County name search can pull up unrelated result pages, and the non-attorney terms charge by the page.
- Classify the Clarke County matter as Circuit, Chancery, Justice, municipal, or recorded land before selecting an access channel.
- For participating court cases, create the appropriate non-attorney PAMEC account and choose Tenth Circuit for Circuit matters or Twelfth Chancery for Chancery matters.
- Use the narrowest party or case criteria supported by the selected MEC system, checking spelling variants only where necessary.
- Open a matching case only after confirming the court, case type, and filing context. Record the search date because the docket can later change.
- Call the appropriate Clarke County clerk when a search is unavailable, unclear, older than electronic access, or likely to require a certified copy.
There is no single mandatory public name-search form. Still, gather the key fields before any Clarke County lookup.
| Search field | Use | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Court or district | Select the Circuit or Chancery system that keeps the case. | Clarke County uses separate Circuit and Chancery access paths. |
| Case number | Use it when known. | It is the narrowest search and helps avoid chargeable broad result pages. |
| Party name | Use the form supported by MEC when a case number is unavailable. | Names can vary, so confirm the caption and case type before relying on a match. |
| Case criteria | Apply any supported case-type or court filter. | It separates a Circuit case from a Chancery matter with similar names. |
Clarke County Case Search Registration
Non-attorney public access to MEC runs through PAMEC registration. The registration page lists a $10 annual fee. Once the account and identity steps are done, the user picks a district system. For Clarke County criminal and civil Circuit matters, that starting place is Tenth Circuit MEC. Divorce, estates, guardianships, equity, land-title disputes, and other Chancery matters belong to Twelfth Chancery MEC. The PAMEC registration page shows the current account categories. It also shows how payment works.
An account is only an entry point. Registration does not promise that every Clarke County case or filed document will be visible to a public user.
Searching by Case Number
A case number is the court's unique docket identifier. Nothing locates a Clarke County case more precisely. No stable public Clarke County numbering format exists to copy as a sample, so take the exact identifier from a filing, court notice, citation, or clerk-provided record. Never invent a prefix or guess at a date pattern. Enter the number the way the chosen MEC system requires. The useful reference is not a fabricated format. It is the real thing: exact Clarke County case number shown on the court record. If the number belongs to a Justice or municipal matter, contact that court directly. Those limited-court dockets are not open to anonymous MEC searches.
Clarke County Case Search Costs
Under MEC's public non-attorney terms, each search result page costs $0.20. Even a search with no matches bills as one page. That fee sits on top of the $10 annual registration. A broad party-name search expands again and again. A Clarke County search by known case number costs far less. Payment runs online or by mailed check. Check-based access waits until the payment arrives and is processed. The MEC payment-method page lists the current options. It also notes any processor charge shown at payment.
Watching costs is not a reason to skip verification. It is a reason to know the court and case number before searching Clarke County records.
What a Case Search Returns
A non-restricted MEC case can yield a docket sheet plus document links. The docket sheet lists filings, events, and orders in order. A document link may carry its own permission limit, so the sheet is not automatically the whole case file. A name match is not always the right one. Confirm the court and case category on the result.
| Case number | The court-assigned unique identifier used to distinguish the case from another matter with a similar party name. |
|---|---|
| Style and parties | The case caption and party roles exposed by the system. Names alone do not confirm identity or case relevance. |
| Case type | The category, such as Circuit civil or criminal, or a Chancery family, estate, guardianship, equity, or land matter. |
| Filing and entry dates | The filing date and dated docket entries. Neither necessarily states the next hearing date. |
| Status and disposition | Open, closed, or a recorded outcome, order, judgment, dismissal, plea, final decree, or appeal marker when exposed. |
| Access metadata | Sealed, restricted, redaction, minor, guardian, or document-permission information where the system displays it. |
A result row can identify the proper clerk. It cannot establish the content or current status of every document. Read the docket context, and get a clerk copy when the filed record itself matters.
Clarke County Case Search District Choice
Pick the district by case family, not by county name alone. Clarke County sits in the Tenth Circuit Court District for Circuit cases. Chancery cases belong to the Twelfth Chancery Court District. The two systems serve different court roles and keep different electronic histories. Tenth Circuit CourtInfo reports a Clarke MEC go-live of August 17, 2020. Twelfth Chancery CourtInfo reports November 1, 2015. Anything older may need a clerk check. A go-live date does not prove that every historical Clarke County paper file was migrated or opened for remote viewing.
| Start with Tenth Circuit MEC | Start with Twelfth Chancery MEC |
|---|---|
| Clarke County Circuit criminal and civil matters. | Clarke County divorce, estate, guardianship, equity, land-title, and related Chancery matters. |
| Electronic go-live reported August 17, 2020. | Electronic go-live reported November 1, 2015. |
| Use the Circuit Clerk for certified or unavailable Circuit records. | Use the Chancery Clerk for certified, restricted, or unavailable Chancery records. |
Statewide vs County Case Search
MEC is the statewide electronic layer, and only for participating Clarke County courts. It is not an anonymous Clarke County court portal. When MEC falls short, the fallback is the responsible clerk. Another option is the courthouse access channel. Or it may be the named limited court. The Clarke County Official Records Inquiry is a different animal altogether. It searches recorded land instruments, not a court docket or a certified court copy.
| MEC statewide layer | Clarke County local route |
|---|---|
| Participating Circuit and Chancery electronic courts, accessed through PAMEC registration. | Circuit Clerk, Chancery Clerk, Justice Court, or a named municipal court keeps the local case route. |
| Public non-attorney access has an annual registration fee and result-page charges. | Ask the custodian about current availability, copies, certification, payment, and delivery. |
| Can provide docket-sheet and document access in non-restricted cases. | Handles paper, archived, restricted, certified, and limited-court requests that an MEC search does not resolve. |
| Does not turn the Clarke County land portal into a case docket. | The Clarke County land portal is useful only for recorded instruments and its images are informational, not certified. |
The best route can shift within a single matter. A Clarke County case may surface through MEC. Then an older paper order, a restricted document, or certification still requires a clerk request.
Clarke County Case and Land Search
For land work, the Clarke County Official Records Inquiry is the place to dig. You can filter Clarke County instruments by grantor, grantee, date range, instrument number, book and page, parcel, legal description, subdivision, and address fields. The results grid opens into instrument details, images, and export controls. Anyone chasing a Clarke County deed, mortgage, lien, or lis pendens will get real mileage from it. The deed filter alone covers grantor and grantee names.
Just know its limits. This portal is not a Clarke County court docket. A recorded lis pendens is only notice that litigation may touch the property, not the case itself and not a judgment. The site also warns that its results are informational rather than official or certified. For a certified instrument or court record, the Clarke County Chancery Clerk remains the source.
Access and Restricted Cases
Public access in Clarke County is never the same as total access. MEC sometimes shows a permission message where non-attorney viewers cannot open a document. Read that as a limit, not a broken Clarke County search. Juvenile and youth matters, adoption records, sealed cases, protected identifiers, and certain Chancery records all call for special handling. Court rules, policy, or an order may control them.
The Mississippi Legislature code portal publishes the current confidentiality text, including Mississippi Code Sections 43-21-261 and 93-17-25. That official code page shows the statutes governing youth and adoption secrecy. For a specific file, ask the Clarke County clerk or court. It can say which rule or order controls access.
Restricted result: When a Clarke County result comes back restricted, ask for the public, nonexempt, or unsealed portion. Also ask for the rule or order that supports any withholding.
Clarke County Case Search Fallbacks
No online result? Go straight to the office that holds the record. The Circuit Clerk keeps circuit criminal and civil filings. The Chancery Clerk holds divorce, estate, guardianship, and related Chancery records. Traffic, misdemeanors, and initial felony matters can start in Justice Court. A city citation may belong to the municipal court named on it. Pachuta is the exception, with no separate municipal court. Its cases go to Justice Court.
Call the Circuit Clerk at 601-776-3111 and the Chancery Clerk at 601-776-2126. Both sit at 101 S Archusa Ave, Quitman. Need a certified or complete file rather than a docket result? Use the record-request details on the Clarke County court records page.
Clarke County Case Search Permissions
MEC users meet one message often. It reads "You do not have permission to view this document." Don't try to work around it, and don't assume the whole case disappeared. Write down the case number, court, document description, and date. Then ask the clerk whether a public docket sheet, a redacted copy, or some other nonexempt portion exists. Ask too whether a court order controls access.
The MEC login warning carries a second lesson for filers. It says not to include identifiers like Social Security or tax identification numbers, dates of birth, minor names, financial account numbers, and home addresses except as permitted. Even when a Clarke County case search turns up such material, it should not be reproduced. The warning itself covers that rule.
Clarke County Case Search Limits
A public landing page, a registration page, and a public case result are three different things. MEC does offer a public access route. But the case content sits behind an account and document permissions. The county land interface is openly reachable, yet it only covers land instruments. Neither one amounts to a free, anonymous Clarke County search for every court record.
Match the task to the channel. For a hearing date, verify the setting with the responsible court. For a record or certified document, contact the office that holds it. For a federal case, use PACER and the federal clerk. A Clarke County state-court channel is the wrong tool for that job.
Clarke County Case Request Details
A tight, specific request gets a clerk to your case faster. It works across paper and electronic sources alike. Give the court, the case or citation number if known, and party names when needed. Add a date range. Name the exact docket sheet, order, judgment, indictment, or other document you want. Say whether you need a plain copy, a certified copy, paper, or an electronic PDF.
Then ask the practical questions. Request an itemized estimate and the payment method. Ask about the delivery option, the turnaround expectation, and the public portion of any restricted file. Clarke County posts no court-copy fee schedule or request form. Confirm those details with the responsible office before sending payment.
